Initial Appointment and Evaluation

An accurate diagnosis is the foundation of meaningful treatment. At Balance Behavioral Health, diagnosis is a process of collaborative inquiry: one that takes seriously your full history, the complexity of your symptoms, and the ways that trauma, mood, and relationships interact.

Our diagnostic perspective brings particular depth to complex presentations, including cases where ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma-spectrum conditions co-occur in ways that resist simple categorization. The goal is not to check a box, but to build a clear, nuanced picture that guides every treatment decision that follows.

Services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, collateral history when appropriate, and DSM-5 informed assessment across mood, anxiety, trauma, neurodevelopmental, and personality domains. We also utilize the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) for objective ADHD assessment, GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing to inform medication selection, and comprehensive lab tests to evaluate contributing biological and metabolic factors.

The initial diagnostic evaluation is conducted in-office. Telemedicine is available for all follow-up care.

Medication Management

Medication, when used thoughtfully, can be one of the most powerful catalysts for change available in psychiatric care. At Balance Behavioral Health, prescribing is never reflexive; it is always collaborative, contextualized, and integrated with a broader understanding of what the patient is working toward.

Medication management is available as a standalone service. Whether you are working with an outside therapist and seeking a dedicated prescriber, prefer to keep your psychotherapy and medication management separate, or are pursuing pharmacological support without concurrent therapy, that decision is respected without judgment or pressure to change it.

We approach psychopharmacology with the depth of a specialist: attentive to tolerability, attuned to the complexity of polypharmacy, and committed to the principle that the goal of medication is to create the conditions in which real healing becomes possible, not to substitute for it. Whether medication serves a short chapter or an ongoing role in your care, that decision belongs to you, made with full information and without pressure in either direction.

The initial diagnostic evaluation is conducted in-office. Telemedicine is available throughout Georgia for all follow-up visits, including ongoing medication management appointments.

Individual Counseling

The therapeutic relationship is not incidental to healing; it is the mechanism. At Balance Behavioral Health, psychotherapy is offered as a space where the patterns that quietly shape your life can finally become visible: the relational cycles, the self-protective strategies that once made sense and now create distance, the parts of yourself that have never quite been integrated.

Our therapeutic approach draws from psychodynamic and object-relations theory and the relational school, grounded in the understanding that lasting change requires more than insight: it requires being genuinely known within a consistent, boundaried relationship. Treatment is oriented toward integration, bringing disowned aspects of experience into conscious awareness, not as excavation for its own sake, but as a pathway toward a more coherent sense of self.

This work is especially meaningful for patients navigating early relational trauma, identity struggles, complex grief, or the experience of repeating the same painful patterns in different forms. It is depth-oriented, collaborative, and paced to your readiness. The goal is the kind of change that does not dissolve the moment the session ends.
